July 1st, NYC Canada Day @ Joe's Pub

This event was inspired by Joe's annual 'Irish Rock Revue', and is a celebration of the great Canadian songwriters, and is held every year on Canada's Independence Day, July 1st. Joe sang the Band's 'The Weight' for the 5th year running, closing out the night. Performers are drawn from an international pool of singers, and even include a few Canadians. Jeff Breithaupt, from the Canadian Consulate, was the witty and enthusiastic host. This event once again SOLD-OUT.

June 18th, NYC St Brigid's Celebration

With the fantastic news that St Brigid's has been saved, a literary and musical celebration was be held at Connolly's of Times Square on Wed, June 18th. Joe's band included Tony Shanahan & Jay Daugherty (rhythm section of Patti Smith Group), the violinist Megan Weeder, and his very special guest, J-F on guitar. It was the first time Joe and J-F had played together in almost 6 years, so quite a reunion. The band played a 40 min set that climaxed with "Eve of Destruction", a situation St Brigid's was all too familiar with. But not anymore, as Joe's improvised lyrics attested to. Joe continued playing acoustic for the final song of the night, a rip roaring 'Folsom Prison Blues" that concluded with a S-A-V-E-D howling.

Pete Hamill read from his writings on downtown NYC, which was beautiful and poignant, as he always is. Other fine novelists giving great readings included Tom Kelly and Michael Patrick MacDonald(ALL SOULS DAY)

A fantastic celebration for this modern day miracle.

Joe Hurley's 9th Annual All-Star Irish Rock Revue

A big thankyou to all who came out for the 9th annual all-star irish rock revue at Webster Hall. It was a tremendous evening of great music and super singers, and the Campaign to Save St Brigid's was thrilled with the fundraising and the support from the audience and all the performers. Stars from the worlds of Broadway, Rock and Roll, Cabaret, folk, punk, and UK comedy graced the stage as did US Senators, assemblymen, activists, dancers, and the ocassional lunatic. The All-Star Band held it together superbly with special thanks to the 'new boys in the band' Mr Steve Goulding of the Mekons, and Mr Mark Bosch of Ian Hunter band for rolling with the madness and playing in such fine style.

The Myspace.com/irishrockrevue has photos and press up from the event, as well as some video footage - the first ever fully-edited performances from an Irish Rock Revue (the entire show was filmed in a multi-camera shoot) Also, reviews of the show will be posted, as will Joe's own personal take on the night, and a section from Mr Edwin Torres, St Brigid's Chairman, with his sentiments and thoughts on the whole experience.
