The best-selling author and great-granddaughter of Charles Dickens honors his 200th birthday with love for The Rockaways. Lucinda Dickens Hawksley will give an enchanting talk on how the magical classic ‘A Christmas Carol’ was written. She will conduct a lively Q&A with the audience, share stories, and join in song at the intimate Theatre 80.

With Lucinda's love for NYC and heartfelt support for the residents of The Rockaways that were devastated by Superstorm Sandy, this fundraiser is all-embracing, including a personal meet and greet, and a signing of her new bestselling book, ‘Charles Dickens: The Dickens Bicentenary 1812-2012.’

With live, silent & online auctions, to benefit the charitable pet foundation Frankie's Friends of NYC.

Frankie's Friends funds grants for life saving veterinary services from their Hope Fund to treat pets whose families cannot afford the cost of care.

Joe Hurley Returns To Rockaway

Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Joe Hurley will bring his rock band Rogue's March to Rockaway Beach on Saturday, August 16, at Connolly's on Beach 95 Street, for their first local performance in a decade. Hurley, a London-bred Irish-blooded New Yorker, has strong ties to the Rockaways. The ballad "Rockaway," which is about his father's passing, will appear on the band's forthcoming CD, due for release in December.

Filmed by PBS TV, the Launch Party for Joe Hurley's OurLand Festival, 'Celebrating Irish Culture In America', was held July 12th in NYC at the residence of Irish Consul General Noel Kilkenny. Patricia O'Reilly, producer and host of the worldwide syndicated 'Out Of Ireland' , was on hand to capture the lively festivities. The PBS feature on the launch of OurLand Festival, aka 'Gathering The Bards: From Galway to Rockaway', saw interviews, and performances from artists including: Alphie McCourt, soul legend Tami Lynn, Lianne Smith, Broadway's Angelica Page, The Cast of 'ONCE', Blue Oyster Cult's Al Bouchard, R&R Hall Of Famer Denis Dunaway, Irish Consul-General Noel Kilkenny, Blue Coupe, Chris Flynn, and OurLand's Artistic Director Joe Hurley.

Hurley toasted the Gathering, The Best of Ireland, Raglan Road & Oscar Wilde, & the stars and supporters of the Free Outdoor Festival, coming July 29th, 2 weeks later. This summer, in association with Lincoln Center Out of Doors, brings to New York City a full day of Irish Culture on July 29th. The event will be full of music, song, dance, theater, literature and more! There will also be vendors, book signings and activities.


Weaving the art of storytelling with original works and classics, Irish-American culture in verse and song.
